Scouts get PR badge

Scouts once learned how to tie knots and pitch tents but they will soon be taught in the dark arts of spin and public relations.

The UK Scout Association has this week introduced 40 new badges which also skate-boarding and street sports.

To be awarded the PR badge scouts will have to write press releases and visit media outlets.
A spokesperson for the Scout Association said:  "The Scout Association regulary reviews the programme we offer to our members to ensure it is relevant.

"Scouting has been teaching young people communication skills for 100 years, and through public relation and the media we can teach this skill in a way that is meaningful to today's young people.

The new badges are quite a jump from the Lord Baden-Powell book "Scouting for Boys"  which was written in 1908.
