Scuba Car becomes a reality
30 years after James Bond drove his white Lotus Esprit into the water and it became a sub, a car company wants to make it a reality.Swiss company Rinspeed has developed sQuba a concept open-top sports car which can can go over land and travel or below the waves to a depth of 10 metres.
But drivers would need to breathe using a tank of compressed air similar to scuba divers - unlike Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me.
Self-confessed Bond fanatic and Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht, 52, said: “For three decades I have tried to imagine how to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.”
Our picture shows the £750,000 prototype, which can dive to a depth of 10m, in action off the coast of Florida.
The "sQuba" will be exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
