Shocked pandas get hugs and games
Giant pandas who were left shocked by last month's earthquake in Sichuan are being given hugs and extra bamboo to calm their nerves.Eight of the high maintenance animals have been moved to Beijing zoo after damage was caused to the Wolong reserve, close to the epicentre of the shock.
The young pandas have now been identified as suffering from anxiety and are being given hugs and plenty of bamboo to help them recover.
Keepers say they are also giving 'psychological support' to the animals by playing with and talking to them.
The earthquake killed four staff members at the reserve and another remains seriously ill in hospital.
Keepers are pleased the animals are getting back to normal and have regained their normal appetite - eating 10-18kg (22-40lb) of bamboo a day, plus milk, apples and steamed buns.
They will go on view to the public later this week.
