Fish and chips are best of British

Fish and chips are the thing people like most about Britain, a survey has revealed.
The national dish beat off competition from pubs, sunday roasts, red phone boxes and even the Queen for the top slot.
7,000 people were quizzed by Holiday Inn what they love most about Britain.
Other items in the Top 10 include: Big Ben, cream teas, the Beatles, the pound and the Royal family.
A spokesman for Holiday Inn said: “This list gives a fascinating insight into exactly what it means to be British – our food, history, royalty, our many wonderful characters and all the fabulous places we love to visit.
“It’s great to celebrate the things we love about our country."

That fish and chips are the No.1 thing that people like about Britain is rather sad when no-one there seems to know how to cook them.
Soggy, limp chips and greasy fish caused in the main by not having the oil hot enough, makes fish and chips something to be avoided when holidaying in Britain.
The rest of the list, with the possible exception of the royal family, is what I as a tourist find interesting about the place.
However, what is it about the NHS that is liked so much? Tourists couldn't care less as they don't use it, yet every local you hear as well as TV shows seem to always moan about the NHS.... so who actually likes it?
Perhaps it's having things like the royal family and NHS where everyone can have an opinion and a winge, is what the people actually like.
