Royal Mint blunder makes 20p coins worth £50
An error by the Royal Mint has left tens of thousands of 20p coins are actually worth over £50 each. The rare blunder has seen many coins produced this year which do not have the date stamped on them.
Experts now say this makes them worth at least £50, potentially far more in the future - the last time an undated coin entered general circulation was over 300 years ago.
To identify the coins you are looking for a mismatch of designs where they used the old portrait of the Queen and the new reverse side - neither have a date stamp.
Excuse me for a moment ... I'm off to search down the back of the sofa.
A spokesperson for the Roal Mint said: "Last year there was an incredibly unusual lapse in the strict quality control at the Royal Mint.
"A batch of 20p coins were issued with mis-matched sides. The result is a number of 20p coins have entered circulation without a date.
