Workaholic Brits do 900m unpaid hours per year
British workers are putting in a massive 900m unpaid hours work per year… while at home, it has been claimed.A study of 3,000 office workers found 45 percent take files home with them at a weekend to keep on top of their job.
One-in-five do additional hours to impress the boss and 12 percent even said they were individually clocking up a minimum of five hours unpaid work per week - that's 260 hours per year or 34.6 days.
This means the hard-working staff are putting in a combined total of over 900 million unpaid hours outside of work per year.
I guess this goes some way towards balancing the amount of time we spend at the office updating Facebook and chatting about Celebrity Big Brother.
A spokesperson for Sharps, which commissioned the study, said: "There’s no doubt that people are finding their working lives merge with their social lives more and more, with the recession having had a big part to play.
"One of the key reasons why is because of the increased pressure people feel to take the office home with them but also because of the rise of the computer in general.
"It is commonplace for all members of the family to spend time online, whether for work, school or social reasons."
