Gadgets: LG GD910

By Jay Garrett
Happy New Year gadget lovers!
I hope that Santa brought you lots of shiny new tech to see you through the start of MMIX. As you may know; there's been a couple of noteworthy events to see us into the new year. CES and MacWorld.
MacWorld is the last with Apple and Steve Jobs sent in a substitute due to his health (or not) and the huge CES in Las Vegas has uncovered many a splendid thing one of which I chat about below. So, without further ado.
Any comic book fan will know that having a 2-way radio or, now we’re actually in the future, a mobile phone on your wrist is a great idea

I caught whiff of the LG GD910 wristwatch-cum-phone last week but now it has had a formal outing at the CES (Consumer Electric Show) in Vegas and was introduced to everybody by Dr Woo Paik himself.
The 3G HSDPA device sports a 1.4-inch touchscreen which can be used for pretty much everything you’d expect from a mobile phone.
You can bring up a keypad to make calls, view web pages and, thanks to a built-in front camera, take stills and have video conversations.
Bluetooth and text-to-speech are also supported - so it seems that LG are serious about putting this wristphone up against real mobile blowers.
The watch-phone (Wa-ne?) is constructed from a water resistant shell with tempered glass.
"You can even play your favourite songs", said Dr Paik as he broke loose a Celine Dion track!
It shall be unleashed "later this year" (the wristphone not Celine) and it will apparently launch worldwide.
Will you be buying one?
To be honest, I think the success of of the GD910 will depend a lot on how it is priced and the contract obligations - both are unknowns as yet.
