Gadgets: Snow, Google Latitude and Apples

By Jay Garrett
The UK – we talk about the weather yet can't cope when we get a light dusting of the white stuff.
The #uksnow seems to be melting in London now but it has been fun following the snow trail on this Googlemaps Twitter mash-up :)
As well as the snow other news includes Skype going to 4.0 with some neat refinements I must say.
Google has also added Latitude to Gmaps enabling you to track your family and friends via their mobiles (with their permission obviously) – iPhone owners have to wait a while by the sounds of things – Booooooooooooooo!
Oooh - Talking about iPhones..........
There has been plenty of speculation regarding the up-and-coming iPhone 2.1.
Well, the iPhone 3G is apparently going to land on the doorstep of Etisalat, the mobile provider in the United Arab Emirates and word has it that they are hinting at a June release for the next version of the iPhone:
The current 3G model will become available on February 15......
.........and the next version of the device, which is due out in June, will be launched in the UAE at the same time.
If that's not enough Apple rumour-mongering how about a 3G MacBook Nano?
Glenn Lurie, president of AT&T’s Emerging Devices division says that he wants a 3G enabled netbook.
Fair enough.
Who did he go to for a chat about this fine idea?
Only Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook, that's all!
Could this partnership birth a MacBook 3G or even the MacBook nano?
The quote that has sparked all this deliberation was in 'Fortune':
“We’re having conversations with lots of folks. I would very much like to do more business with Apple, and hope that we do”.
That’s all Lurie would say, but this was the man who was responsible for the iPhone and AT&T exclusive deal in the states so I’m thinking he's already got Apple onside.
People have be waiting to see if Apple would join in with the netbook market.
Let’s face it; there’s been enough renders flying around the interweblogosphere.
Perhaps the Sony VAIO P proves that there is still room to be a little creative in this crowded market.
We just have to wait and see I guess.
