Gadgets: Hologram Projecting Mobile Phone? Trou dat!
By Jay GarrettWelcome gadgety faithful!
I will not be mentioning the new iPhone 3GS or the hideous price of upgrading before your 3G contract ends – nor will I mention the way of getting Apple’s latest on a 1 month or 1 year deal.
I will however mention that Nintendo’s Wii has turned black.
It sounds like we might be seeing Asus’s Touchscreen EeeBoard within the next month or so and Averlogic have managed to send HDMI signals through power lines so that literally ‘plugging your tele in’ will have more meaning.
Heinz has devised a USB powered microwave for at-the-desk-snacking on their lovely beanz and you could soon be changing the colour of your mobile phone at the press of a button.
Talking bout mobiles, check this out from Yanko Design.
Ok – the iPhone’s and the rest of the touchscreeen massive are nice and we enjoy that tactile interaction.
But howsabout a holographic interface? Tasty non?
Welcome to the Trou Hologram phone concept.
I’m sure everyone can dig the idea. Just imagine how cool it will be when you turn your mobile around and can see your friend’s avatar, a picture of where you’re supposed to meet or even your sibling’s new pet in total 3D.
OK, so holographic projectors are known to eat up lots of power, so that’s one challenge to overcome for the small projectors on the surface of the display – perhaps Nokia’s new ‘ambient electricity’ technology could help with that?
I’m sure there’s other things that prevent this very cool glimpse into the holographic future of communications from becoming reality but hey – I just thought it would make a change from all the Apple-chat.
I am taking bets right now as to whether the first MMS on a Hologram packing mobile will be Princess Leia saying those immortal words: “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi – you’re my only hope”.
