HEROES (BBC2, THU 9PM/ BBC THREE, THU 10.30PM) This series about ordinary people discovering they have extraordinary superpowers, before being drawn together to avert the destruction of New York, was a TV phenomenon last year. It wasn't perfect, but the abundance of ideas, likeable characters, plot-twists and exciting cliffhangers kept it rattling along like an express train.

It was easy to see why it captured peoples' imaginations -- even if it shamelessly stole ideas and storylines from the comic-book back-catalogue it owed its existence to.
